From: Blackflak@aol.com Date: Sat, 20 Jun 1998 18:48:03 EDT Subject: CHARDESC: Manstalker Manstalker is, with the exception of Warp, my longest existing superhero (if such is the appropriate term). As such, he's got a long and confusing history, so bear with me. Manstalker I was a game hunter called August Durant. He discovered a mystical amulet deep in the bowels of Africa. This amulet caused a strange technomystical armor to manifest around Durant, giving him tremendous strength. The armor also protected him from anything short of an artillery shell. Durant worked for years afterwards as an apolitical soldier of fortune using the armor and calling himself "Manstalker". During this time he alienated many people in the US government, even coming to blows with the country when he was hired by the North Vietnamese. (Nixon blamed Manstalker for America losing the Vietnam War). Shortly afterwards, Manstalker disappeared from the world, not to be seen for ten years. In that time, August Durant learned that he had cancer, and set out to use the significant amount of money he had made in his time as a mercenary to establish a non-profit institute for developing new diplomatic and political structures, hoping to find an alternative to "government". The institute is still extant. When Durant died in 1983, the amulet was accidentally included in a box of knicknacks that was willed to his nephew, Roger Amber. Rog was in his second year at technical college then, and when going through the box, found and activated the amulet. At that time, Manstalker returned to the world, this time as a freelance bounty hunter, often on the wrong side of the law. These days Rog will admit to having been a bit out of control. He used his technical background and the money he made to upgrade and refit the armor, adding more armament and accessing more of the mystical strength and protection in it. In the late eighties, after saving President Reagan, Manstalker was pardoned and given a position in the second incarnation of Enigma. This irked Warp, who had fought him on a few occasions. Warp has since never been wholly accepting of Rog. In his private life, Rog is the lead guitarist and singer of the now-world- famous band, The Great Frog. His bandmates are unaware of his dual life, only that between tours and albums he disappears for long periods of time. Rog has embraced a zen way of life, taking things in stride. He is impossible to bait, and in his human identity is as peaceful as Manstalker is violent. As a result of the magical armor (which has since been bonded directly to Roger in an incident when the amulet was destroyed), Rog ages at half normal speed, thus he looks like he's in his late twenties, while he's really in his late thirties. As Manstalker, Rog has Superman-caliber strength, making him one of the strongest beings in the solar system. The armor can withstand even artillery now, and is hyped up with a great deal of armament including a wrist crossbow, laser, claws, a crystal sword and a ground-to-air missile in the backpack. He can fly with a jetpack and has a portable computer in one wristband. Rog is a capable engineer, though unexceptional. Any questions about Rog or his history, please feel free to ask! Doug
